Local Information and Things to See and Do
The campsite is conveniently situated within the local area and is surrounded by things to do and places to visit. Many places are accessible on foot, and the area is well served by buses and ferries should you not wish to drive yourself. Alternatively you could book one of the many excursions available at Reception or if you are feeling energetic you could hire a bicycle from the camp shop!!

Just across the road from the camp site you will find Port Grimaud, this picturesque village is a purpose built copy of a Napoleonic fishing village. Although it was only built in the 1960’s you will find it hard to believe that it is was not built much earlier. The network of canals and bridges make it unique in France and it certainly deserves its nickname of Little Venice. There are many bars, shops and restaurants to delight and a typical French market is held there twice a week on Thursday and Sunday. Sit in the village square and watch a game of boules or take a trip around the canals on the water bus, or simply relax in one of the bars after browsing the many craft shops, the choice is yours. Visit the marina which plays host to some spectacular sailing craft or catch the regular ferry crossing to Saint Tropez or Saint Maxime.
The harbour at St. Tropez
Taking the ferry to visit Saint Tropez is by far the most relaxing way to see this famous town. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes across the bay and is most enjoyable, tickets can be obtained from Reception and you can catch the boat from the harbour in Port Grimaud. This town is well worth a visit with its millionaire yachts and harbour side artists, browse the many designer and curio shops or visit the enormous open market and bric a brac stalls.
St. Maxime is the nearest town and the local bus service stops right outside the camp gates making it very easy and inexpensive to go there, should you wish to drive car parks are plentiful and easy to find. This is a true French market town, whilst the promenade panders a little to the tourist if you explore the back streets you will find some very interesting shops as well as the market selling live lobsters and crabs! Whatever you need can be found in this town and the enormous open market is well worth a visit.
In addition to these places the camp is surrounded by several other villages, Cogolin which renowned for its pipe making, La Garde Freinet an enchanting hillside village and Gassin made famous by the Roux brothers to name but a few. More information can be found by clicking on the place names or visiting Provence Magazine or Provence web a publication for the area which is available in all languages.
Grimaud village is easily accessible by taking the Little Train from outside Reception. The journey takes about 15 minutes and you are given a guided tour as you travel (commentary is in all languages). The village itself is very quaint and has numerous attractions, much older than Port Grimaud it boasts a castle, a windmill and the Penitents Chapel dating back to 1000AD. Originally a Saracen stronghold the fascinating history of this hillside town is ably told at the Museum which is well worth a visit. There are also many interesting artisans shops and of course ample places to refresh yourself.
There are many small towns and villages around each with their own individual characteristics. Cogolin famous for its Coq (cockerel) insignia and pipe factory. Gassin the beautiful mountain village made famous by the Roux brothers through their culinary expertise. Nearby Draguinan is also a very quaint medieval town worth a visit.
